History & Future Plans
Since the Anti-Stalking Task Force's inception in December of 1999, members of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, mental health experts and victim advocates have worked to improve the response to stalking in the Capital District. In 2000, we completed our first training conference for first responders and the judicial system. We have since developed a comprehensive training manual to be disseminated to law enforcement throughout the Capital District. We have phones that can be issued to victims so they can have ready access to law enforcement in case of emergencies.
Future plans include regular conferences/training, and the development of a statewide communication system for the effective tracking and monitoring of offenders in order to enhance victim safety. We have in recent years brought experts from around the country, including Threat Assessment professionals from the Federal government and representatives from every county in New York State in order to facilitate a statewide network.
In line with the desire to create a statewide system of assistance to victims and tracking of offenders, the Task Force hopes to work with the New York State Police as an expert consultant on the development of a statewide database of stalking, threat and domestic violence information which would assist victims when they or the offender travel outside the original county.
More localized training for specific components of law enforcement, the judicial system, and corrections are always in the works. Check our "Training/Conferences" page for current training opportunities.
